Hypnotherapy - What is it and how can it help you?

Have you ever been driving on a very familiar route and when you arrive at your destination you think “ wow I don’t remember the last part of that journey” well that is Hypnosis and it is a completely natural state where the most powerful part of your mind , your unconscious mind takes over. That would never happen on an unfamiliar route or if you have just passed your test. It is said that the unconscious part of your mind is 90% of your mind so it is massively powerful, it’s that little voice on your shoulder that when your conscious mind says “ I can do that” whatever that is , that little voice says “ no you can’t you never stick at anything” or “it won’t work”. And when there is a conflict between your conscious and unconscious mind your unconscious mind invariable wins. Hypnotherapy encourages both parts of your mind to work together so that you have the best chance to achieve the results you desire. Until you make your unconscious mind conscious it will control your life.z

The reason for this is that the oldest part of the brain is always trying to keep us safe and doesn’t know the difference between real anxiety and anticipatory anxiety , so if you are worrying about a review with your boss , or what people might think of you when you give a presentation , or how you are going to cope on a flight because you have a fear of flying, your brain doesn’t recognise that these things haven’t actually happened and straight away reacts in a fight flight or freeze response as if it is happening right now.

Sometimes we don’t process emotions from our past and it gets frozen, especially if we have suffered traumatic experiences. We then may become disassociative as a way of protection, but the problem is that we can’t choose what emotions we disassociate from, so we tend not to feel emotions even good ones, we intellectually know they are good or bad but we can’t really feel them, everything is a bit flat emotionally. This process helps to process past emotions and unfreeze them and put them into context so that you can truly move on with your life. Like putting the missing links into your emotional jigsaw puzzle.

This programme is about improving your life. It is all about now and the future and It helps you to really understand yourself, not you with your mask on “that mask that to be honest we all wear to a certain extent” when you really understand what is holding you back I can teach you how to challenge and change it. Maybe you have some self doubt or you worry about what other people think of you, perhaps you have limiting beliefs or unhelpful learned behaviour. Once you understand “why” you may be struggling or not reaching your full potential, it is so much easier to come up with a plan that enables the change you want. So that you can live a happy thriving life.

About Me

Hello, my name is Vikki Heath and I am passionate about helping people of all ages to live a happier, less stressed and more authentic life, despite the challenges we may face from time to time. We can’t always change what happens to us in life but we can change how we process and think about it. I have been working full-time as a therapist since 2003 and I love evolving and learning new and up to date skills. Most of my clients come from referrals.

If we are going to be working together then it’s nice for you to know a bit about me. My name is Vikki and I am really passionate at helping people to overcome their problems. I am married to Jack and have one daughter and two grandchildren. I live in a small village just outside Shrewsbury and have two dogs. I have also been in the fitness industry since the 1980’s and now own a fitness and wellness studio where I run my clinic from. I love socialising with friends, cooking and the countryside.  

I have worked as a full time therapist since 2003 starting off as a hypnotherapist which I found fascinating after I quit smoking using hypnosis, I then trained as a hypnoanalyst and worked as a Thrive consultant for eight years. I am always doing new training to keep up to date and have now written my own programme called Mindspace which I use stand alone or with hypnosis and cognitive integration. I have also invested in a dry flotation tank which helps regulate the nervous system and can be combined with hypnotherapy.

I offer a free initial consultation, in person or via video call, allowing us to discuss your problems in more detail and tailor my programme to suit your individual needs.
